A: Wi-Fi 6 is the abbreviation of the sixth generation wireless technology, the wireless LAN standard "IEEE 802.11ax", which is the successor of the 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5) standard. Wi-Fi 6 uses new technologies such as OFDMA, MU-MIMO, higher-order modulation (1024-QAM), BSS Coloring, etc. Compared to the commonly used Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6 features a higher connection rate, more band capacity, lower latency, and lower power consumption.
Note 1:
As the Wi-Fi standard evolves, the Wi-Fi Alliance (known as the International Wi-Fi Alliance, or WFA for short) decided to rename the Wi-Fi standard using numbers in 2018 to make it easier for you and Xiaomi to understand which Wi-Fi models that devices connect to or support.
Note 2:
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers defined the name of the new standard as "IEEE 802.11ax". The Wi-Fi Alliance for commercial certification called it Wi-Fi 6 for promotional purposes.
Note 3:
On October 4, 2018, the Wi-Fi Alliance officially announced that the next-generation Wi-Fi technology, 802.11ax, will be renamed Wi-Fi 6, while the previous two generations, 802.11n and 802.11ac, will be renamed Wi-Fi 4 and Wi-Fi 5, respectively.
