This happens because road bike tires have high pressure (some can reach 120PSI). The internal sealing ring of the Presta valve experiences high pressure between the valve core and the sealing ring. When the valve is quickly unscrewed under high pressure, the sealing ring will be pushed out due to the rapid release of pressure. It is advisable to operate slowly when removing the valve after inflating to over 80PSI, allowing the pressure reading on the air compressor to decrease before fully removing it. If the sealing ring falls off during use, it can be manually reattached and will not affect future usage.
