Mi Electric Scooter (M365) Recall Program

1. Background introduction

We have identified that a number of Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooters (M365) have a defect that can pose a potential safety hazard to consumers. In order to ensure consumer safety, avoid potential accidents, and maintain trust in the Xiaomi brand, we have determined the best course of action is to initiate a proactive product recall.

2. Recall range

The affected units were produced between October 27, 2018 and December 5, 2018, and are primarily concentrated in the United Kingdom, while a smaller quantity is spread across 20+ regions. The affected serial numbers (S/N) range from: 21074/00000316 - 21074/00015107 and 16133/00541209 - 16133/00544518.

3. Recall process

3.1 Confirmation of recall scope

Consumers who live within the affected countries/regions and have purchased a Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter will be asked to enter required information about their scooter on the recall microsite. This information will be used to determine if that particular unit is subject to the recall.

3.2 Consumer information entry

Once determined if that particular unit is part of the affected batch, consumers will follow the requested prompts for information on https://www.mi.com/global/support/mi-electric-scooter-recall-program, including the scooter’s serial number, a picture of their scooter with serial number shown, and the consumer’s contact information (address, phone, mailbox, etc).

3.3 Returning Defective Scooter

Xiaomi Customer Service will inform consumers whose scooters have been determined to be part of the product recall process of the correct handling method, which will vary by region (see chart below). One of the following methods will be used:

Method 1: Shipping Option
  1. Xiaomi Customer Service Center/Xiaomi Authorized Service Center will create a work order for each recalled scooter. Xiaomi/Xiaomi Authorized Service Center will arrange to have scooters sent in for repair working through an approved shipping service.
  2. Consumers will be required to pack the scooter for shipping using the materials provided by the shipping company or pack it properly in accordance with the standards provided by the shipping company. The shipping company will arrange for the scooter to be picked up from the consumer’s designated location (as submitted on the recall website).
  3. The shipping company will then be in charge of sending the scooter to the assigned service center for repair.
  4. Consumers can contact our Customer Service to check on the status of the repair.
Method 2: Drop-off Option through Distributor/Dealer
  1. Consumers bring the scooter to the dealer where they have previously purchased the scooter and dealer will confirm on site that it is within the affected range by checking the SN number.
  2. The dealer sends the unit to the assigned service center for repair.
  3. Consumers will receive a claim ticket/pickup voucher from the service center.
Method 3: In-person Option
  1. In specific markets, Xiaomi Customer Service will inform consumers of the available maintenance locations where they can bring their scooter for repair, should they choose to do so.
  2. The outlet repairs the scooter on site for the consumer the same day.

3.4 Receiving the repaired product

Method 1: Shipping Option

Repaired scooters will be sent directly to consumers via the address submitted previously.

Method 2: Drop-off Option through Dealer

Upon notification, consumers can pick up their repaired scooter from the dealer at which they dropped their unit off for repair by presenting the claim ticket/pickup voucher.

Method 3: In-person Option

Consumers will be able to pick up their repaired scooter on-site within the same day.

If a service outlet determines a scooter is not within the affected range, they will contact the consumer to see if he/she agrees to pay for the return courier fee. Consumers have 15 business days to reply.

4. Process cycle

For shipping and dealer drop-off options, consumers are expected to receive their repaired scooters within 10-15 business days from the date the scooter is sent in for repair.
