Pedometer

Introduction

A pedometer is a tool that measures calories or calorie consumption by counting steps, distance, speed, time and other data to control the amount of exercise and prevent insufficient exercise or excessive exercise.

Principle

The electronic pedometer is mainly composed of a shock sensor and an electronic counter. When a person walks, the center of gravity must move up and down a little bit. The up and down displacement of the waist is the most obvious, so it is most suitable to hang the pedometer on the belt.

The core of the electronic pedometer is the vibration sensor. Generally, it can be divided into 2D pedometer and 3D pedometer according to the form of the sensor. According to the function, it can be divided into single-function pedometer, pedometer watch, fat measurement pedometer and so on. It is used in Mi Smart Band and Xiaomi mobile phones.

Basic settings

Generally speaking, pedometers are nothing more than three buttons: RESET, MODE, and SET. The names of various manufacturers are different but they are inseparable. Some manufacturers' pedometers have added backlight buttons, as well as additional functions such as MP3 buttons; but the basic buttons are no more than these three.

Usually the mode key (MODE) is used to switch the viewing data, and the setting key (SET), as the name suggests, is to adjust the setting data. When the pedometer is setting data, the adjustable data will flash. At this time, the method of adjusting the data is called differently according to the manufacturer's key setting, and the setting operation is also different. For example, the international brand isport pedometer is to press the clear button (RESET) to adjust the data; if the data does not flash, long press the clear button (RESET) to clear the data.

Process

First, remove the battery insulator and turn it on. (Remove the battery insulation sheet behind the pedometer to activate the pedometer)

Second, set personal information including weight and stride distance. (Hint: Step distance is the distance from the front toe to the back toe)

In addition, the 2D pedometer with a round back buckle needs to be worn vertically on the ground; the square 3D pedometer has no requirements for wearing.

Finally, clear the data before official use. (The user should clear the step count on the step counting interface before using the pedometer officially to reduce the step counting error)

Basic classification

2D Pedometer

The old generation 2D vibration sensor is actually a counterweight when the balance is destroyed when it vibrates up and down, so that a contact can be turned on/off. The main function is completed by recording and displaying by the electronic counter. Other heat consumption and distance conversion are all determined by The circuit is complete, also known as a mechanical pedometer. Generally, this 2D electronic pedometer needs to be worn vertically on the ground to feel the vibration of the human body to generate data records. The recorded data errors are too large and the price is cheap.

3D Pedometer

At present, the mainstream on the market is the use of 3D electronic pedometers. 3D means to feel the vibration of the human body in all directions, that is, it does not need to be worn vertically on the ground, as long as it is carried in the side pocket, the step can be counted in the handbag. Using more advanced electronic sensors, step counting is more accurate and smaller. Some advanced 3D pedometers also come with: stopwatch, radio, MP3, flashlight, UV (ultraviolet test) and other functions.

watch pedometer

The watch pedometer is to integrate the chip of the 3D pedometer into the watch. In this way, users can count steps, running speed, running distance, calories by wearing a pedometer watch, and also have functions such as calendar, alarm clock, stopwatch, timing, etc. The latest pedometer watch also integrates GPS positioning , SOS emergency call for help, anti-fall, medicine reminder, heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen and other functions, to achieve one-stop management of exercise, health, safety, some have blind button settings, more user-friendly.

software pedometer

The mobile phone type is to use the application in the mobile phone or the tools in WeChat to take steps. Users can use the pedometer function directly on the mobile phone without purchasing any pedometer device. Running enthusiasts can set their height, weight, age and other data through their mobile phones, and directly turn on the pedometer through the menu function to count the number of running steps.

other types

fat meter

As the name suggests, the pedometer integrates the function of a fat meter. The fat measuring instrument is to read the body fat rate by pressing the resistors on the two corners of the pedometer with fingers for 4 seconds. And calculate the degree of obesity in the human body. Among them, data such as age, gender, and weight of the human body are shared with the pedometer. It is very suitable for some people who use pedometer to lose weight.

FM pedometer

The pedometer incorporates the functionality of an FM radio. People can walk, run and count their steps while listening to music and radio.

Pedometer band

The pedometer wristband is also called a wristband pedometer, which contains a 3D motion sensor. It does not have a display and needs to be used synchronously with a mobile phone. The latest pedometer wristband has Bluetooth transmission and super waterproof function, which can be used for diving, using Also more convenient.

Conditions of Use

Most pedometers work well under the following conditions

Temperature: -10℃~40℃, Relative Humidity: 30%~85%

Atmospheric pressure: 86KPA~106KPA

Precautions

Qualified judgment

To judge whether a mechanical vibration sensor pedometer is accurate, it is necessary to keep the body of the pedometer vertical to the horizontal plane, and gently force the pedometer to swing up and down. The swing distance is about 3 to 5 cm. At this time, the pedometer needs to be 100% correct to be qualified.

To judge whether a 3D vibration sensor (gravity acceleration sensor) pedometer is accurate in counting steps, pinch the body so that the flattest plane of the body is parallel to the horizontal plane, and gently swing the pedometer up and down, observe count.

Intelligent error correction

Since the human body is in a state of motion, every slight movement or vibration of the vehicle you ride will trigger the motion sensor in the pedometer. The pedometer uses caching technology to minimize the recording of these invalid movements of the human body. That is, the number of human movements recorded from the static state is placed in the temporary buffer of the pedometer. If the number of continuous movements exceeds the set value, the number of steps will be recorded. On the contrary, the pedometer will clear the number of steps in the cache after a few seconds.

Generally, 2D pedometers usually use 5-step cache due to the limitation of registers, 3D pedometers generally use 10-step cache, and pedometer watches also generally use 10-step cache technology and add manual pause pedometer mode to achieve the best error correction effect.

Error

Walking: The frequency of walking is 100 steps / MIN. When walking 100 steps, the number of steps recorded by the pedometer should be in the range of 92 ~ 108 steps.

Running: The frequency of running is 170 steps/MIN, 100 steps are run, and the number of recorded steps should be in the range of 95 ~ 105 steps.

Without any packaging, the pedometer can be freely dropped 2 times from a height of 80 CM from the concrete floor, and the pedometer can still work normally after 2 times.

R & D history

The pedometer was first conceived by Leonard Da Vinci in Italy, but the earliest pedometer in existence

The earliest pedometer made in Japan in 1775It was made in 1667, 150 years after Leonardo da Vinci.

The earliest pedometer in Japan was made in 1755 by Gcn.naiHiraga. In the Middle Ages and modern times, pedometers were not widely used because it was unclear what they were used for. This shows that the invention of the machine (hardware) is less important than finding its use for humans (software).

In Japan, pedometers have been used for more than 40 years, mainly for sports and to analyze and record walking pace. In 1965, the pedometer officially entered the Japanese commercial market and was named manpo-meter (manpo means 10,000 steps in Japanese). This is a pedometer that usually utilizes the pendulum clock principle as a step-counting technique, utilizes a weighted mechanical switch to detect steps, and has a simple counter. If you shake these devices, you can hear a metal ball sliding back and forth, or a pendulum clock swinging from side to side to strike a block.

This mechanical pedometer has long since faded out of history, replaced by an electronic pedometer.
